The London to Paris Cycle Ride

So, what's going on then?
Well, basically I'm going to be cycling nearly 200 miles (320kms) over just three days from Tower Bridge in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. (Click here for full itinerary).

When?
Friday 15th - Sunday 17th August 2008.

Erm, why?
I've become very interested in positive psychology and the application of positive thinking on the course of our lives. Some people assert that we can all achieve anything we really put our mind to. I'm not sure whether this is true or not, so I'm going to find out.

And, so, what's this got to do with ME?
Well, I want to make this challenge worthwhile to more people than just me. So I've chosen to cycle in aid of what I believe is quite simply an amazing local charity. I hope to raise significant funds for Naomi House Children's Hospice, which is based in Winchester, Hampshire. Naomi House is a purpose built children's hospice, which provides palliative care including respite, terminal and bereavement support for children and young people who will die before they reach adulthood.

So what do you want me to do?
Well first and foremost I'd like you to SPONSOR me as much as you can afford. Any amount will be greatly received because, as they say, every penny counts.

(I have set a massive target of £1500, and I need to raise at least £920 before 6th June 2008).

Why should I?
If ever there was a worthwhile cause, surely Naomi House is it. The staff work with children of all ages who will never make it to adulthood like you and I. When a child is diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, families can feel alone, isolated and helpless. Many children's conditions deteriorate slowly, putting enormous strain upon the family's way of life. Holidays, family activities or outings are often denied as care for the child is put before anything else. Naomi House work with the whole family (around 200 per year) offering respite to healthy brothers and sisters too.

If you need any more persuading ask me for more details or check out the Naomi House website.

Give me another reason. I'm still not convinced.
Well, think of all the (extra) possibilities you will now have to rib, mickey-take and generally humiliate me over the wearing of lycra shorts, helmets, my ability to stick to a training plan or do anything remotely sporty. . .

Surely that's a good enough reason.

Ok, so how do I sponsor you?
There are several ways to sponsor me.

1. The safest and most efficient way is to go direct to my online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/christopherpurnell OR

2. Send a cheque (payable to Christopher Purnell) to my address and I will make sure the money is passed on to Naomi House OR

3. Pop round and add any loose change or cash into the special bucket in my house (Actually it's not really a bucket, but you get the idea!)

And then what should I do?
Well, firstly pat yourself on the back for being incredibly generous. Thank you! You really will have made a difference to children's lives. Secondly, sit back and enjoy the rest of this site (if you're really bored that is!).

You can currently:
- answer my poll on lycra shorts,
- check out some training photos and see pitures of my new bike,
- watch the timer count down to the big day.

You will soon be able to:
- check out my training plan and read updates on how it's going,
- read more details of the actual expedition,
- see how close I'm getting to reaching the £1500 fundraising target.

Thanks for your time.

All the best,

Christopher
